Yes, even if you are an atheist or an agnostic. The danger of not providing them with access to and involvement with a good church can be devastating, because those are the children most likely to be targeted by dangerous cults and movements, and destructive ideologies. Why?

Children with no decent spiritual foundation are not exempt from drugs, illicit sex, teenage pregnancies or the aforementioned, damaging ideologies and cults, however they are far less likely to be caught in that web of lies that is so attractive to kids who seek to fill the spiritual and ideological, philosophical vacuums in their lives.

If it’s true that we all base our lives on our personal philosophies, and that we all have a deep seated, built in need for spiritual purpose, which I certainly believe it is, we have the choice: either we provide that philosophy and spiritual anchor, or someone else will, and usually with an evil, selfish motive.

Teenagers tend to be rebellious, so before they hit that stage, you can work on providing them with solid, wholesome alternatives to the kind of destructive beliefs and behaviours we see today in the “social warriors” and entitlement mentality mishaps of our time. A child that has based his or her ideas on personal responsibility, an understanding of right and wrong, a strong spiritual dimension for hope, purpose and guidance, and respect for others is less likely to be the target or indeed victim of a psychological predator.

Today, more than ever, children are drifting aimlessly in a stale soup of relativity, “anything goes,” liberalism and confusion. A personal without a purpose is wont to seek one, as Mr. Dylan explains in his song below. He says, “It may be the devil or it may be the Lord, but you gonna have to serve somebody.” Just as you feel responsible to direct your kid’s choices regarding exercise, the right friends and the best diet, neglecting to provide spiritual direction is a mistake that can have severe and dire consequences. There’s a thin line between good and evil.

You may be a socialite with a long string of pearls.

But you’re gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed

You’re gonna have to serve somebody,

It may be the devil or it may be the Lord

But you’re gonna have to serve somebody.

You’re gonna have to serve somebody,

Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord

But you’re gonna have to serve somebody.
