Life is actually very simple, when we learn from the great achievers, people who have gone before us and who can tell us from experience how to make our dreams come true. For example, the great Les Brown teaches us, “If you do what is easy, your life will be hard, but if you do what is hard, your life will be easy.” That’s simple. But how about those BIG decisions?
In 1961, President John F. Kennedy had a decision to make. The decision was whether or not he should call a news conference and announce to the world that the United States had decided to put men on the moon. This was a very risky decision. The technology did not exist. The answer to “what will it take?” did not yet exist. No-one had ever done it before! So he called the most brilliant rocket scientist he had, Werner von Braun, and he asked him, “Werner, what will it take to go to the moon?”
The answer the President received was five words. And these five words are the secret to human success. It was those five words that gave Kennedy confidence to make that historical announcement. That’s what it takes to succeed against all odds, in spite of those odds, to give you the mental resiliency and power you need to build your business, to make your marriage work, to turn your business around, to change your life. The five words were, “The will to do it.”
You see, the will to do something, the commitment to persist until you succeed, whatever it takes, guarantees success in the long run. Paul J. Meyer said, “Whatever you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe and enthusiastically act upon MUST, inevitably come to pass.” That’s what Herr von Braun was talking about: The WILL to do it. That irrevocable decision and the will to keep on keeping on, to find a way instead of finding an excuse, it what separates the winners from the losers. Success leaves clues; that rocket landed men on the moon. It worked, and it always will. Our goals are first achieved in our minds and our hearts.
Its never too late to start over. All it takes is one quality decision, one that you write in blood, set in stone, and seal with the fire of your honour. With the unshakable will to do it, nothing is impossible.
